Honestly: I didn't get enough. Honestly: I didn't get enough.
I am disabled. I am a person with two permanent di I am disabled. I am a person with two permanent disabilities. They cannot be cured. They are invisible to practically everyone, even people that I consider good friends. They are still new to me, even 3.5 years after my first one was diagnosed, and I am still coming to terms with labeling myself this way.

I am not a warrior. I am not some kind of hero. I am a woman who is in talk therapy for the first time in her life to grieve her life and her body before disabilities, and process everything else that life can throw at her. I am managing day to day, sometimes minute to minute.

I don't need pity. And I don't need charity*. I need patience, understanding, open mindedness, and a continual effort towards making a world that is more inclusive and accessible for everyone. I need humans that I can trust to care about other humans in a way that doesn't hinge on politics or economics.

*It wouldn't hurt, though, if you wanted to toss some cash towards research to help find cures for MS and Celiac Disease.

I have been thinking about this all day today. And as much as I want to be a voice for representation, I know that I have so much more to learn about what it means to be disabled or how to fight for the rights of other disabled people. Learning that will take some time, and it will always be a work in progress.

For now I can celebrate myself for everything I do successfully. I can celebrate the ways I've given myself grace and the ways I'm learning to adapt to these disabilities. I can shine a light on my moments of joy as well as on my moments of pain.

I can practice kindness within myself as well as for the world at large. I hope that you can do the same. 🧡
